Last year while away on a business trip a colleague gave me some much needed healing and introduced me to Reiki. I had heard the word before but knew little to nothing about it. In my quest for spiritual/self development I dug a bit deeper. Step one was to find an awesome Reiki Master. Tick, thank you Google, and thank you Intuition. As soon as a stumbled upon Fiona’s website I just knew she was the gal for me. I was right.
The thing I love most about Fiona is that she keeps it real, she’s a genuine person translating her gifts and skills into today’s world, and she is excellent at what she does. She talks about spirits as if she were talking about the living and that to me makes it ‘normal’ (hands up, I am a believer). Fiona’s healing powers flow as naturally as if she were skipping down the road or making a cup of tea. I love it, and I think she is exactly what the world needs to break down silly stigmas and scepticism. As an added bonus Fiona is also a smart and sassy chick, and we connect. I am incredibly grateful for her. Who wouldn’t love someone who during invocation says, “Give me the best you’ve got!”. It’s 2014 people, spirituality comes from within and I doubt that the Universe/God/Angels have issues with how one prays, isn’t it the belief that is most important?
What’s the story?
Once upon a time, in the early 20th century, in a far away land, also known as Japan, there was an incredibly tenacious chap called Dr Mikao Usui who through his research and conviction developed Reiki.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’, it is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing and is considered to be a form of alternative medicine.
Note, we now live in the 21st century so don’t give up your doctor just yet, just mix it up a bit.
It’s all about energy and chakras, which are energy centres in our body in which energy flows through. We want this energy to flow freely but sometimes it gets blocked and we get ill, whether it be physically or emotionally. Enter Reiki practitioner and their healing hands, which when applied to your (fully clothed) body and chakras transmit, yes you’ve guessed it, energy. All you have to do is lie back/sit down and relax. Bring your scepticism if you want to but be prepared to allow time to see the results, they will come.
What are the benefits?
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Create inner peace
- Reduced pain
The first time I saw Fiona she told me my eyes were really tired and advised me to go to the optician. I promptly went and it emerged that my glasses’ prescription was wrong. Problem solved, happy eyes.
The special thing about Reiki is that anyone can do it, just take one Reiki Master and a really cool attunement process and you’re ready to go.
Reiki 1 ~ you will learn the hand positions and will be able to treat yourself.
Reiki 2 ~ you will learn to use a number of symbols and be able to heal others.
Reiki 3 ~ become a master and you can attune others to Reiki.
The Reiki Principles
I love these, I meditate on them daily, it is a great way to start the day.
Just for today…
I will be free from anger
I will be free from worry
I will be grateful
I will do my work honestly
I will be kind to every living thing
Okay so maybe I am into all this “hippy shit” (as my partner calls it, whilst being incredibly supportive I might add) but I think mostly I gain from such things because I strongly believe that closed minds do not open doors. Basically, if it feels right to me, I’m in! I also believe it is time that we release silly stigmas and just let go. Such practices have existed for centuries for a very good reason! The great thing about Reiki is that it is for anyone and everyone. Hooray. So, don’t be shy, give it a bash.
What is your experience of Reiki?
